Our Story
Leven House was built in 1879 and was originally two private houses. Leven House was built by a local plumber Charles Anderson, then the Page family owned it for a short period and the Hoskins family purchased the house in 1936 and set about joining the 2 houses together and turning it in to a hotel. Originally a 14 bedroom hotel with shared bathrooms, some of the rooms were converted to create en-suite rooms. Three generations of the Hoskins family ran Leven House as a hotel until 2008 when it became a bed and breakfast. More of the history can be read here, provided by a Alan Cattell, a guest who stayed here in 2022 and was rather take with the house and did some wonderful research in to Leven House. A big thankyou to Mr Cattell.
Nic and I met while working in hospitality and whilst she has moved on to a successful career in another field, I pursued a career in the hospitality industry and was most recently General Manager of properties in Scotland and England.
With a young family and wishing a change, but understanding the hard work that goes in to running a bed and breakfast, we purchased Leven House from the Hoskins family in October 2019 and are just setting out on putting our mark on it. Global Pandemic was not in our first year business plan but it has given us time to get to know the area but we are well versed in all the best local walks and cycle routes so are well placed to advise our guests, just ask.
All the work has been done by us (and Grandpa Fraser), so we hope you like what we have done so far. We have more to do, but this is a long term project and, if interested, we will keep you posted on our progress. Below are some before and after images and you can follow us on instagram or facebook.
We hope to welcome you soon and remember to BOOK DIRECT for the best available rates.
Kind regards
